“Lady's Slipper,” also known as Wild Orchid, is a rare wildflower found in shaded woodlands, hidden pine, and hemlock forests.
She grows about 6 inches from the ground and was photographed using a macro lens. Photographing close-up helps blur the background and brings forth the simplicity of her lines, creating more of an abstraction.

The flower takes on a totally new presence in subtle gray tones, very different from the natural pink with green stem, it emphasizes the shape of the flower creating new depths and a dream like quality with subtleties that would easily be overlooked.
Waiting for the light, just the right moment to capture subtle highlights creates conditions for the photographic intuitive moment to occur. The flower is thin and billowy so I also patiently waited for stillness, the slightest breeze would blur the image.

Using a film-based camera, there can be some unexpected results. For example, the shutter speed, a 60th of a second, has control over the final results which makes the process of development even more exciting!
